Buying Guide for NEEWER Gimbal Tripod Head GM101
1. Consider Your Camera Setup
Ensure that the Gimbal Tripod Head can support the weight of your DSLR camera and lens setup. The GM101 model has a maximum load capacity of 30lb/13.6kg, making it suitable for professional DSLRs and heavy telephoto lenses.
2. Smooth Camera Movement
Look for the smooth movement feature provided by the bearing structure in the Gimbal Tripod Head. This allows for precise swiveling and rotating of your camera, ideal for capturing fast-moving subjects in wildlife and sports photography.
3. 360° Panning Base
Check for the panning base with panoramic scales that enable you to rotate your camera 360° for panoramic shots. Ensure there is a lock knob to secure the panning base in place for stability.
4. Vertical & Horizontal Directions
Consider the swinging arm feature that allows you to photograph both vertically and horizontally. Ensure the lock knob can fix the camera positioning securely for different shooting angles.
5. Arca Type Quick Release Plate
Make sure the Gimbal Tripod Head comes with an Arca type quick release plate that is compatible with your camera. The plate should have a rubber padding to protect your device from scratches and a bubble level for precise angles.
6. Compatibility and Mounting Options
Check the mounting screw size on the quick release plate to ensure it fits your camera. Verify that the 1/4″ and 3/8″ sockets at the bottom of the head allow you to mount it on most tripods for versatile usage.

Brand new and heavy duty, I recommend it as it comes at a great price.

The gimbal is well-constructed and straightforward to set up. Once I achieved the perfect balance, the camera/lens appeared to float effortlessly in any position I placed it and responded smoothly to my every movement. This will greatly enhance my ability to handle my Sony 200-600mm lens.

I find joy in watching online videos featuring expert wildlife photographers using a d500 camera with a 200-500mm lens. One renowned wildlife photography specialist, who has received awards, praised the neewar gimbal as a solid investment that has served him well over the years. He believes that the neewar gimbal matches the quality of more expensive models, emphasizing its durability and build. What stood out to me was that he mentioned he was not compensated for endorsing the neewar gimbal, making his recommendation more trustworthy in my opinion. After considering the older, slightly cheaper version of the gimbal, which I assume the expert used in the video based on its release date, I opted for the newer, slightly pricier model. I have found it extremely user-friendly, offering smooth movements and versatile adjustments to suit my preferences and shooting needs. Despite its weight, it pairs well with my d500 camera equipped with a teleconverter and 200-500mm Nikkor lens with a grip. I have been using it daily since receiving it, and its ease of setup and customization have impressed me. If it continues to perform reliably over the next year, I believe it will be a worthwhile investment. Though not lightweight, it meets my requirements well, especially when capturing moments like observing birds build a nest outside my window. The gimbal’s stability prevents any slippage and allows me to maintain the perfect angle effortlessly. I highly recommend it based on my experience so far, especially for stationary shots taken with a tripod. Its effectiveness has been endorsed by a respected wildlife photographer, which initially drew my attention to this product. I hope this review aids you in your photography endeavors. Happy shooting!

Upon reviewing feedback on the previous Neewer gimbal model, I observed that most customers praised its excellent build quality. However, many expressed worries about the grease in the joints, and there were numerous videos demonstrating how to address this. With the new version, it seems that these concerns have been addressed. The gimbal operates smoothly, offers a secure lock down, and shows no performance difference between 70 and 30-degree temperatures. I plan to provide further updates on my experience with this gimbal head as I continue to use it during the winter in Michigan.

***UPDATE***
After posting a review and video, Neewer’s customer service proactively contacted me. They promptly replaced my gimbal head at no cost and provided a prepaid shipping label. Their customer service was exceptional, earning a 5-Star rating. The gimbal operates smoothly and lives up to its advertised performance. Despite its size, it is stable, easy to adjust and balance, and securely locks in place. This product offers excellent value compared to leading brands and is ideal for those seeking their first gimbal head or working within a budget. I rate the product 4 stars and the company’s service 5 stars.
While I had expected the gimbal to be sturdy and reliable, I found it to be quite heavy. The bottom section that rotates horizontally is not securely fastened. When not properly locked, it wobbles significantly. I cannot recommend this product. As the saying goes, “buy nice or buy twice.

The product is of high quality with great craftsmanship and a perfect fit. I used it during the winter in Maine without any problems, and it worked smoothly regardless of the temperature. However, the customer service experience was disappointing. When I inquired about a specific feature of the gimbal, they repeatedly requested proof of purchase, pictures, and eventually a video over the course of a week. It was frustrating that they couldn’t simply identify the product by its model number and answer my question. Overall, the product is good, but I would advise against seeking support for any inquiries.

I am a passionate animal photographer, capturing moments in various settings such as zoos, National Parks, and the vast wilderness of Alaska. One of the biggest challenges I face is trying to keep up with moving animals while maintaining the quality of my shots. I typically use a monopod or tripod, but recently I tried out a gimbal which allowed me to smoothly track the animals without the hassle of readjusting my setup. This gimbal has been a game-changer for me.
Here are my thoughts after field-testing this gimbal:
Pros:
– Easy to use, suitable for all skill levels
– Works seamlessly with large super telephoto lenses
– Appreciate the camera height adjustment feature, especially useful for taller individuals with shorter tripods
– Smooth rotations without causing noticeable shaking
Cons:
– The weight may be a concern for some, especially for those engaged in backcountry wildlife photography where every pound matters. It could benefit from being a bit lighter.
Overall, this gimbal is a solid product that offers great value for its price, serving as a more affordable alternative to pricier options available in the market.

The tripod head is of excellent quality, durable, and cost-effective. I have mainly used it for capturing airplane photos, yielding fantastic results. It enables me to track movement smoothly and capture my most impressive shots. I have not encountered any issues with the head supporting my heavy camera and long lenses. I have also successfully used the Gimbal tripod head for various activities like photographing kayak competitions, motorcycle racing on ice, and capturing birds in flight. Throughout these diverse uses, the Neewer tripod head has proven reliable without any problems.
Ivancho –
I can easily handle it with the 500 mm lens, great value for the price. Highly recommended.

I own several Neewer photography products, and the gimbal, like many of their items, is well-crafted and exudes a sense of quality. While not the lightest option available, it provides assurance when mounting heavy lenses. The gimbal is simple to install and configure, functioning flawlessly. A fantastic purchase for those who won’t be using a gimbal regularly. I am extremely pleased with this gimbal.
MikeC –
While I find it somewhat heavy, the quality appears excellent. It performs well and provides stability to the lens.

This is my initial experience with a gimbal, and although it may be heavier and less smooth than pricier models, I have found it perfectly suitable for my wildlife photography needs. I don’t anticipate embarking on extended birding or wildlife treks with this gimbal and tripod setup due to their weight and lack of compactness. In general, I find the quality and usability sufficient for the wildlife photography I am engaged in at present.
