This mirrorless camera features a digital viewfinder that provides an accurate representation of the final photo. It excels in eye detection for focusing, particularly beneficial when using lenses with shallow depth of field like a 50mm. However, it is bulkier and heavier than comparable models like the SL3, requiring an adapter for non-RP lenses. Additionally, the camera’s automatic exposure settings in low light may lead to reduced speed and high ISO, resulting in clear but low-resolution images. While its low-light performance surpasses the SL series, it falls short of mobile phones that utilize image stacking. Improved eye detection capabilities and a built-in stacking feature would elevate this camera’s popularity. It is important to note that the eye detection feature is effective only under certain conditions, as it may struggle when the subject moves out of range.

I loved my camera, it exceeded my expectations. The focus, the flip screen, the weight, the sensor, everything is excellent in terms of value for money.

As a professional photographer of more than a decade, I was thrilled to try out a mirrorless camera for the first time. The difference is definitely noticeable. Overall, the RP performs admirably, especially in low-light situations and for slow-paced portrait photography. The image quality is excellent, particularly when using high-quality lenses. The Canon adapter also functions well.
I did encounter some issues, though. I experienced highlight blowouts despite having the ISO set to the minimum. This led me to frequently underexpose my shots to prevent this issue, although brightening shadows in post-processing was generally not a problem in terms of noise. Additionally, the burst mode quickly drained both my Canon and third-party batteries, which was a significant inconvenience during events like weddings or baby showers. This issue could be quite embarrassing for a professional photographer.
I am unsure if these issues are common with the RP or if I received a faulty unit. Regardless, I am considering upgrading to the R6MKii soon. While the RP has been a mostly enjoyable camera to use, the battery performance is a major concern for me as a professional photographer. I would recommend this camera for studio or portrait photographers but not for those shooting sports, wildlife, or events.

I have only had this camera for a brief period, but every photo I’ve captured with it has turned out fantastic. During my first outing to the mountains, I snapped some stunning shots of the lake and pine trees that exceeded my expectations. The colors in each photo are simply outstanding. I highly recommend investing in the flash attachment, which I initially missed as a separate purchase. It is definitely worth the extra cost.

It arrived in super fast time and perfect condition, without any issues or damage, completely brand new and sealed.

The camera itself is decent, but the kit lens is not worth it. I recommend skipping the included lens and investing in an EF lens or a faster f/2 lens. Avoid purchasing cameras with f/4-7 lenses as they are not very useful.

Canon has really impressed me with their latest budget-friendly mirrorless camera. Despite being the most affordable option out there, it doesn’t compromise on quality. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and I’m thoroughly satisfied. The image quality is a noticeable improvement from my 5d Mark 2, excelling in low-light situations, boasting swift and precise autofocus, and being comfortably lightweight. The R series cameras are truly remarkable, and this model is no different, especially given its exceptional value. Priced at less than a thousand dollars, it’s a steal for those seeking a professional-grade camera at an entry-level price point.

I used to own a Canon T3i and absolutely adored it for the amazing results it delivered. It was one of the best budget cameras of its time. However, as I delved more into videography, I found the T3i lacking in features like autofocus and modern video resolutions and frame rates. This led me to search for a new camera in the same price range, considering options from various manufacturers like Sony, Fujifilm, and Panasonic. Each camera had its drawbacks, whether it was Sony’s odd coloring, Fujifilm’s overheating issues, or Panasonic’s poor autofocus. I needed a camera that excelled in both photography and videography, suitable for professional portraits and vlogs. Ultimately, I settled on this camera and I’m thrilled with my choice.
While I’m not an expert, I consider myself beyond the beginner stage in photography and videography. This camera strikes a perfect balance for me – it offers advanced features without overwhelming me with options I don’t know how to use. The included 24-105 kit lens has been serving me well.
The video quality is a significant improvement from the T3i, with excellent face-detecting autofocus that ensures most shots are sharp. Although the 4K capabilities are somewhat limited compared to other cameras in this range, the 1080p resolution meets my needs and is visually stunning, with manageable file sizes for editing.
Surprisingly, the photo quality exceeded my expectations. The autofocus is vastly improved, particularly for capturing fast-moving subjects. The full-frame sensor enhances low-light performance and produces incredibly detailed photos. The camera body feels robust and well-made, a far cry from the T3i’s plastic build. The ergonomic grip adds to the overall comfort of handling the camera.
My only gripe so far is the lack of a physical switch on the kit lens to toggle between autofocus and manual focus, requiring adjustment through the camera settings. Despite this minor inconvenience, I am thoroughly impressed with this camera and I am extremely satisfied with my decision to purchase it.
